The Site Challenge

A densely shaded, deeply sloped backyard that was previously unusable needed to become a lush, immersive retreat that felt like a natural woodland extension.

Design & Architectural Solution

We embraced the shade by curating a rich tapestry of ferns, hostas, and Japanese maples. Meandering pathways of irregular flagstone were laid out to slow the journey through the space, leading to hidden seating nooks. A recirculating stream was added to introduce the sound of flowing water.
