Leander has been one of the fastest-growing cities in the country for years, and most of what we design here is a full landscape from scratch on a bare new-build lot. There is nothing to work around, which sounds easy, but it means every decision from shade to drainage to soil has to be made from zero. The lots on the west side are larger, some on well water, and the soil is shifting from clay to limestone as you move into the hill country.
Landscaping in Leander: what is different here
Most Leander projects are full designs on completely bare new-construction lots. There is no existing landscape to preserve, which means every element has to be chosen and placed from scratch. This is where a real design plan earns its cost.
Limestone and shallow soil become the norm as you move west in Leander. Trenching for irrigation hits rock, and tree planting may require an auger. We price for the soil we will actually find.
Larger lots on the west side, some on well water, have irrigation limits that city-water designs ignore. A well has a flow rate, and the irrigation system has to be zoned around it or you will run the pump dry.
Establishing shade from zero on a new-build lot is the first thing most Leander clients ask for. We plant fast-growing trees that actually survive here: cedar elm, Mexican sycamore, and bur oak. The trees builders plant, like red oaks, often struggle in this soil and exposure.

Your designer in Leander
Carlos Mendoza
Carlos has designed more new-build landscapes in Leander than anywhere else. He knows which subdivisions have well water, which have rock, and which fast-growing trees actually survive the first summer here. Starting from a bare lot is his favourite kind of project.
